I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies [H5715 – eduwth], as much as in all riches.
How many of us, if someone set before us Yah’s WAY to observe His testimonies and “all riches,” would choose the observance of His testimonies? C’mon … let’s be honest.
How many of you wouldn’t be just a little tempted with all those riches?
Well, maybe you’re a better man than I. Oh, I would eventually make the right decision, but not without a wistful glance at the money. Admit it, it’s just human nature to want to have your needs met.
But David WAS a better man than I (and probably most of you). His value system regarded the Creator’s Ways that were lined out in His testimonies with the highest regard.
It was like David was saying, “Take all this money and prestige … it’s worthless. Just show me how You do things, Dad!”
This Scripture says that David rejoiced in the WAY of Yah’s testimonies, not Yah’s testimonies per se, but in the WAY of His testimonies.
When you check out the entry in the Theological Workbook of the Old Testament (TWOT – 1576f), you can see that this Hebrew word for “testimonies,” or “eduwth,” is directly connected with the Ark of YHWH. After all, it was called “the Ark of the Testimony [H5715 – eduwth].” (Exodus 25:16)
It was called “the Ark of the Testimony” because it actually contained “the Testimony” of YHWH.
You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the Testimony [H5715 – eduwth] that I will give you.
When you research the Strong’s entry for the Hebrew word “eduwth,” you see that it basically means repeated witnesses. What were the “repeated witnesses” lined out on the tablets put into the Ark?
They were the Father’s feast days (the “moedim” – H4150) from Leviticus 23 that were to be proclaimed by all Israel!
So, when we (like David) place the highest value on the Father’s “moedim,” as well as the other commandments lined out in the testimony, we too can be like David and rejoice in the WAY of His testimonies!
When we see the Ark of the Testimony surrounded by the manifest presence of YHWH and containing the testimonies, we should immediately be thinking of our role in the New Covenant.
Behold, the days are coming, says YHWH, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah – not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says YHWH.
We all know that the fullness of the New Covenant has not yet come because people still don’t know YHWH (see v34) and we don’t fully have the Torah written on our minds and hearts. Some of us hold it in high regard, but we still have the mixture that disqualifies us from being true representatives of His glory.
And David was in the same boat, but his heart’s desire was to be transformed into His image. That’s why David cried:
Oh, that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes! Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments.
You see, no one can hope to be a host for the glory of El Elyon unless he/she is willing to at least acknowledge and desire the Torah of YHWH. Someone who is not like this does not contain the heart of David.
King David considered the “WAY” lined out in the testimony of YHWH to be the greatest treasure. He knew that if he could just grasp and understand what the Father expected of him, he would be considered a faithful witness to those around him.
If you are a faithful witness, then no amount of worldly riches will be able to match the Father’s provision for you. All that you do will be established.
Once I have sworn by My holiness; I will not lie to David: His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before Me; It shall be established forever like the moon, even like the faithful witness in the sky. Selah
