Hurricane Sandy – Get Ready!
As the East Coast braces for Hurricane Sandy, the blogosphere is already buzzing with conversation, debate and other bits of information. As you can tell from the graphic below, this is even bigger than Hurricane Irene. I read in Joel Rosenberg’s blog that Hurricane Sandy has already killed many people and it hasn’t even hit the shore yet!
Saints, we really need to pray for our nation.
False Prophets Will Try to Avoid Calling Hurricane Sandy “God’s Judgement”
The false prophets will try to put a positive spin on this storm and avoid calling this God’s Judgement. If they were to call it “God’s Judgement”, then they would have to endorse that God judges sin, and (for the most part) that is something that they are just not willing to do.
We Don’t Mind Judgement as Long as it Doesn’t Happen to Us
I think we all have a little bit of King Hezekiah in us. As long as judgement happens in a future generation, we can say “The Word of the Lord is good!”, but thinking of God’s Judgement in OUR generation …. well, that just seems beyond our comprehension!
But, you see, God DOES judge sin. The bible says, if we walk in the Fear of the Lord, these kind of things won’t happen.
“The fear of the LORD [leads] to life, And [he who has it] will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil.”
Now, either that verse is the Truth, or it’s a lie …. I believe it’s the Truth.
This is NOT God’s “Final Judgement” on America
While I believe that this storm may be a “part” of God’s judgement on America, I don’t believe it is THE Judgement of America. Believe me, if God was judging America (in a “final” sense of the word), we would have much greater issues to deal with.
You see, we serve a Righteous Judge … and He is Love. Our God loves us!
And it’s because of this Love that God is even giving us a chance to repent.
If We Do Not Listen, God Will Bring Judgement
That is how our Unchanging God (Malachi 3:6) deals with a sinful people. If they don’t listen to His loving rebuke through His Word and His Prophets (the Real Ones), then He brings disaster upon them. That is how He dealt with Israel, that is how He deals with us, ekklesia.
Barring a miracle, this storm is really gonna rock our country …. and I believe it will cause some to repent, but I also believe this repentance will be short lived (just look at 911 for an example).
I Pray for a Turning in the Hearts of Believers
I pray for the safety of those affected by this storm. God, please remember mercy! But, more importantly, I pray for the turning of this nation. I pray for a turning in hearts of those who call themselves “believers”.
Lord, may we all live according to the following verse:
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all.”Micah 6:8
“He has shown you, O man, what [is] good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?”
BTW: I understand that I’ve kind of glommed America and the church together in my thoughts above. Believe me, just because you’re part of the nation of America doesn’t mean that you are automatically part of the church, or have some special “bond” with God … you don’t. Discussing this is another post for another time — thank you for understanding!
