False prophets always draw a crowd

If I see a prophet with a large following, red flags go off in my head right away. Usually, when a prophet is surrounded by many people, it is because the people like what they hear.

For the most part, true prophets in the Bible were NOT well-liked by those in authority or the masses because they pointed out sin and tried to steer the listener back to obedience to God’s simple commands. Such a message is not well accepted by a carnal society – or the church, for that matter.

Jesus warned us, saying:

Luke 6:26
Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets.

This is a “New Testament Warning” straight from our Messiah’s mouth, exhorting the disciple to resist the urge to pander to the crowd. The masses will follow blindly after anyone who will tell them what they want to hear, lavishing upon them esteem and adoration when they should be looking to the One who created them.

But true prophets of the Most High do not need the praise of the people. They look to Him for their acceptance.

Does that Mean EVERYONE who Draws a Crowd is a False Prophet?

Not at all! John the Baptist, Jesus and Moses each had quite a following!

So, how do you discern the difference?

Jesus said:

Matthew 7:15-16a
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits.

So, what is the fruit of a false prophet? This topic will be explored further in a later chapter. I have also included a teaching of mine entitled “False Prophets, Fruit and the Unwitting Wolf,” [Appendix B] in the back of this book, where you can read further commentary.

Meanwhile, remember: We are looking for “two or three witnesses” from Scripture! If you see someone who claims to be a prophet surrounded by a bunch of adoring fans, displaying any of the other “marks” that we will touch on in this book, don’t listen to them.

Don’t be fearful of speaking out either … you will have your “two or three witnesses” from Scripture. It will be established.

False Prophets have an Insatiable Desire for Status

While studying this principle, I came across something interesting that bears mentioning.

Most of us are familiar with the verse that says “Satan transforms himself into an angel of light.” Paul wrote this while addressing the issue of false apostles who desired to be regarded and honored in the same way he (Paul) was.

2 Corinthians 11:12-14
But what I do, I will also continue to do, that I may cut off the opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the things of which they boast. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

Granted, this is talking about false apostles, but the dynamic is the same for a false prophet (both then and now). The false prophets also desire to be regarded as equal to the prophets of the Bible, all the while preaching “another Jesus” (read all of 2 Corinthians 11 for context).

This willingness to teach something other than what the Word really says (preaching “another Jesus”), combined with a desire for regard (honor) is part of what makes them wolves in sheep’s clothing.

They are “transformed” into something false… a deceitful worker. Selah.

False Prophets Revel in the Favor of the People who Promote Them

As I mentioned in the last post, false prophets are likeable people, and the multitudes eagerly flock to hear them give the latest encouraging word because they have itching ears.

2 Timothy 4:3-4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

Did you notice how it was the PEOPLE who heaped up false teachers?

On Judgment Day, the deceived will find themselves complicit in their own deception. They will not be able to justly accuse the false prophets and say “You deceived us!” because THEY were the ones who promoted, fawned over and worshiped the ones who deceived them.

I’ve found out (the hard way) that a false prophet’s disciples will defend their idolatry with a vengeance, because the “idol” gives them a false sense of security that justifies them in their sin, or at least gives them license to ignore it.

The true prophet, Isaiah, spoke of these people when he said:

Isaiah 30:8-11
Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and note it on a scroll, that it may be for time to come, forever and ever:

That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear the law of the LORD; Who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us right things; speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits.

Get out of the way, turn aside from the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.”

False Prophets Speak Smooth Things

Most modern day prophets preach a Jesus that you can reach the easy way, and thousands of hungry people (many of them youth) are flocking to them, eager for anything to draw them closer to God.

This should be a major red flag to anyone who is truly watching.

I will write more about positive and encouraging words in a later chapter. Just know, for now, that the crowds flock to false prophets because of the “smooth things” that they say. They like what they hear. They like to have the “itchy ear” scratched.

When you see the multitudes being gathered together to listen to the newest teaching or latest revelation, remember that Jesus it would be the FEW who find the NARROW gate into the NARROW way that leads to LIFE.

Matthew 7:13-14
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are MANY who go in by it. Because NARROW is the gate and DIFFICULT is the way which leads to LIFE, and there are FEW who find it.

Do you see the “MANY?”

Remember … Jesus said there would be “FEW!”

Kris Vallotton Memes from Hell

Kris Vallotton and Insidious Memes from Hell

Knowing what I know about false prophets and prophecy, I cringe whenever I see memes from Kris Vallotton appear on my Facebook wall. Not because he’s a false prophet – that’s just a given – but because I know that people blindly read and absorb these messages with little more than a passing thought.

The Elijah List is Going Big Time!

The Elijah List has managed to score coveted television spots on God.TV and a few other Christian networks. This is a virtual “golden ticket” to increased visibility, fame and fortune. Anybody who has read their bible could see this coming.

Subversion and the Conquest-Driven Nature of Hellenism

V. Subversion and the Conquest-Driven Nature of Hellenism

Let’s take the time to discuss another key characteristic of Hellenism that – historically and presently – has deeply affected the faith for the worse. Not only does Hellenism fog concrete and absolute truth with abstraction, it also militantly promotes and enforces it by employing tactics such as infiltration, subversion and – if necessary – murder.

  1. Would you say 500 men besides women and children a crowd? Whom Jesus fed? And is Jesus a hypocrite or false prophet because he had a crowd?

    1. Hi Cathy… before you mentioned it, I have never heard of this ministry. It appears that they are somehow linked to Graham Cooke? If so, he’s an Elijah List crony and a false prophet. Ole Graham has a really smooth way about him and a ear-pleasing way of putting things… but he does not present an accurate reflection of Him. Hope this helps.

  2. Hi Kevin thanks for this. What do you think of Lana Vawser? I’m young in my walk so not very discerning yet. Is she involved with the Elijah List?

    1. Hi Carmen, yes she is involved with the Elijah List. They have promoted several “words” from her. She is not extremely well known yet, but she may be later. To be fair, I have not listened to any of her material, but I do know that the Elijah List will not promote someone unless they fit their definition of what a “prophet/prophetess” is … and that definition is completely flawed.

  3. Our church did a series of studies and teachings by a man named Les Feldick, who teaches that Paul preached a different Gospel from Peter, and that Jesus fulfilled ALL the Law (Torah) and that the Law isn’t for us today…..needless to say, the folks ate it up…and oohed and aahed that Feldick is such a great man of God…..I got in trouble with the pastor because I asked him ‘after we come to the knowledge of our need for salvation, and we repent, what do we do afterward?’ He said we don’t have to ‘do’ anything..(which I agree, concerning salvation) but I said, ‘what about our obedience to the commandments, and how God said how He wanted to be worshipped?’ this gist is, we don’t have to, cause Jesus (Yeshua) did it for us….we are praying that eyes and hearts will be opened….at least the pastor has been excepting articles and other readings from us cause I gave him a challenge…..prove me wrong by the Word…if you can’t, then dig deeper into the Word and read the Truth…his preaching is leaning in other directions now…but he really need boldness, too much beating around the bush going on…..really like your teaching…Yah bless

      1. I do not believe there are any prophets for today. The Bible once completed gave us all the prophecies we need till the rapture.

    1. I see nothing wrong with Les Feldick. A few things I disagree with but all in all he’s a true believer and God-gifted to teach the Bible.

  4. I am presently in a “discussion” with a friend about the pre-trib “rapture” during which she quotes numerous well known evangelists and so-called prophets who have a great gift of gab and can twist the scriptures into pretzel-like configurations, the likes of which I’ve never heard! She clamors for a word from these people everyday, never missing their daily tv appearances.
She says she won’t argue with me about the subject, and that’s because she can’t !She doesn’t know the scriptures that totally refute that preposterous doctrine; only what she has heard a false prophet say. This false doctrine is one of the biggest calling cards of the present day false prophets.
Until you can pierce the walls built on false doctrines (doctrines of devils) that these false prophets promote, giving heed to seducing spirits, you cannot get the ears of people who want to have their itching ears scratched. Break down the wall and you break the false prophets’ influence. To do that, you better know the Word, and you better know it well because you will have a spiritual battle on your hands like you cannot imagine! The enemy knows scripture, too, and his ability and agility to mishandle it will amaze you!
