Since I started this blog, I’ve vowed that I would have an “open book” policy towards my readers. I’ve played the church game before and lost, struggled with religious self-esteem and lost, and even had a chance at prophetic stardom and lost.
Many of you have had similar experiences and similar losses.
You deserve nothing less than transparency from me … but transparency has a cost.
While I can rest assured that I am not putting up a facade or showing people a less-than-accurate picture of myself, I have come to recognize that being transparent also invites input from people who feel the need to work out MY salvation FOR ME – and many times they expect me to “fear and tremble” at their words.
I find this particularly true with Facebook. The social media dynamic trains you to put your life out there for all to see. Heck, I’ve even read posts where people were talking about the form and texture of the bowel movement they just passed!
“Social Media” by definition…
I find the definition of each word in the term “social media” interesting.
The word “social” mainly means “relating to society or its organization” – in other words, the people of this world and their structure.
“Media” can mean a “means of communication,” but anatomically, it can mean “an intermediate layer, especially in the wall of a blood vessel.”
So, combined together, “social media” can mean “a means of communication – or intermediate layer – between the user and society and the organization thereof.”
As we ponder this, we have to ask ourselves . . . where does YHWH fit into the middle of all this?
Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with Elohim? Whoever therefore intends to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of Elohim.
Social media is a means of communication between you and the world. And, while I’m NOT saying “social media is of the devil,” I AM saying that social media – and those who participate in it – can easily take the place of YHWH’s leading in your life, placing you at “enmity” with Him.
Relying on Confusion for Shalom
Due to their nature, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, etc. house millions of links to articles, videos, audios and those ever-so-influential meme.
These man-made, opinion-laced sources of information inevitably taint what the Ruach may be wanting to tell you, and might even lead you astray from the path He wants you to follow.
I confess that I have fallen into the trap of relying heavily . . . admittedly TOO heavily . . . on Facebook for the answers to my questions.
Let’s just face it – it’s just easier to look up a link to readily available, man-made information than to find out what the Father is saying about a topic.
Asking the Father usually requires waiting for an answer – at least, for me it does – and I HATE waiting.
Waiting – for me – is like a root canal without anesthesia, severe constipation, or having to listen to anything by Taylor Swift.
You know . . . basic torture.
Waiting for the Pure Word
But (sigh) . . . is there anything better than a direct word from the Father? Anything at all?
Can a Facebook debate ever change a person’s heart like One Word from the Father?
Man . . . can a Facebook thread really change anyone’s heart at all?
For me, I’ve only observed anger and confusion.
For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
So check yourself before you look to social media for answers. “Society and its organization” have no room for the Father unless they can shape Him into their image and, when you consult society and the image they have created, that’s what you will conform to.
But seek first the reign of Elohim, and His righteousness (not someone else’s righteousness), and all these matters shall be added to you.
It will be just you and Him on Judgment Day
Likewise, use discretion when revealing yourself to others – I’ve learned this lesson the hard way.
Remember, this is YOUR salvation . . . this is YOUR walk with YHWH.
You will be held accountable to Him and Him alone on that Day. Your Facebook buddies will be nowhere to be seen as you stand before Him and answer the question:
