Bob Jones passed away this morning.
This post isn’t going to discuss whether or not Bob Jones was a true or false prophet, nor is it going to discuss the validity of his ministry and/or whether or not he is in the Kingdom. Over the next few weeks, you will probably see many other posts, articles and Facebook threads discussing and debating those details.
Instead, I just wanted to share some things that I’ve been pondering since I read about Bob’s death this morning. Bob Jones was one of the “fathers” of the prophetic movement. This movement, in my opinion, is one of the main tools of deception that the enemy is using.
But the truth is… to some degree, we are all guilty of deception and misrepresenting the Master… all of us (including myself). And the truth is… if we continue to misrepresent Him, we will not be part of the Kingdom. This is especially true if one has a call to be a prophet of the Most High.
God kept Moses, a prophet who spoke with God face-to-face (Exodus 33:11, Deuteronomy 34:10), out of the promised land because he did not represent Him accurately.
Do we really think we can continue down this prophetic path and not suffer a similar consequence? So, we need to pose the question:
How can we know if we are representing Him accurately?
How Do We Know if the Prophet is True?
The Word gives us a clear standard to discern whether a prophet is true or false. God gave the standard clear back in Deuteronomy 13.
If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, “Let us go after other gods” – which you have not known – “and let us serve them,” you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Read the above verse closely. The main indicator is whether or not the prophet causes you to stray from the commandments, or keep the commandments.
Even if a so-called prophet has dreams, or performs signs and wonders, you are to pay him/her no mind if they cause you to stray from the commandments of God. The Bible actually says that this is a test FROM GOD to find out if you truly love Him. This line of reasoning even follows through to the New Testament.
Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
The True Prophets in the Old Testament measured up to the same standard as well.
Your prophets have predicted for you falsehood and delusion and foolish things; and they have not exposed your iniquity and guilt to avert your captivity [by causing you to repent]. But they have divined and declared to you false and deceptive prophecies, worthless and misleading.
I did not send these [false] prophets, yet they ran; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied. But if they had stood in My counsel, then they would have caused My people to hear My words, then they would have turned them [My people] from their evil way and from the evil of their doings.
This is a far cry from the modern day prophetic movement.
Criteria for Entering the Kingdom
Having wild dreams and visions… or even being a “sweet old man” is not an assurance of a close walk with God, nor is it a sign that a prophet is in our midst. Casting out demons and prophesying isn’t a guarantee either.
But the truth is, most accept a personality like Bob Jones (and the others) in our congregations based upon these criteria because of our dissatisfaction with the mainstream church and our longing for “the supernatural.”
Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?”
Man’s criteria for entering the Kingdom is based upon the number of supernatural acts they can perform. God’s criteria for even knowing you is “Did you follow my commands?”
It Is Time for the True Prophets to Arise!
The destination at the end of the modern-day “prophetic path” should be self-evident by now, to those who are watching and listening.
Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
I sincerely believe that this is a time for those who have a call to be prophets of Yahweh to search their hearts.
Are you willing to be scorned, ridiculed and be made an outcast for the sake of speaking the true Word of the Lord? Because I’m telling you right now, the modern day “prophets” are NOT speaking it.
Are you willing to call people back to His commandments?
This is the plumb line to determine whether you will be false or true.
So what does this have to do with Bob Jones’ passing?
Well, he didn’t call people back to the Torah of YHWH… think about it.
