Post-”Prophetic” Rehab: How to Get Back on Track

Elijah ListI received a letter from someone who, like me, was involved in the Prophetic Movement for quite some time and has only recently had the eyes of their understanding opened to the Truth. They asked what steps should be taken to “rehabilitate” themselves and get back on track.

When you’re involved with the Prophetic Movement, there are so many distractions, half-truths and …. well, junk, that your vision gets foggy and you feel like you’re lost in the middle of a huge forest with no direction as to how to get out. You doubt your ability to hear God’s voice and the Truths and Promises of His Word no longer seem valid or reachable.

Have you had enough of the crazy visions, theories, “warfare”, visitations, psycho-twitches, HO’s and Shabbah’s?

THERE IS A WAY OUT!!!!

This answer is so simple, it’s easy to discredit it and sweep it under the rug.

Here’s the answer: READ YOUR BIBLE AND PRAY ….. A LOT!!!

Could it be this simple?? YES!!

Transform Your Thinking

We are told in Romans 12:2 to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” This is the perfect way to find your way out of the forest … by having your mind transformed!

You’ve been wandering out in this sea of confusion, moved and shaken by every wind of doctrine and teaching of man …. you want a way out …. you want to chart your course in the direction of Ultimate Truth. The Word of God will do this for you!

The Spoken Word of God has it’s own Power that, when listened to and meditated upon, can actually CHANGE the way you think. It can fine tune your “spiritual” ear to actually be able to discern between the Holy Spirit and “other” types of spirits.

Be prepared to find ways of thinking in the Word of God that conflict with what you’ve learned in the Prophetic Movement. There are many things that I had to re-learn as my mind became more aligned with His Word.

Talk With God

The other thing that needs to happen is a lot of prayer. The Word says in 1 Thess. 5:17 to “pray without ceasing” … in other words, DON’T STOP!! While you may not be able to actually speak out in prayer all the time, you can keep yourself in a position of continually listening for His Voice. Hearing what He has to say is WAY more important than anything we think we need to pray.

As you’re listening, remember that you’ve been part of a movement that allows for other spirits to enter into the picture. This can result in a lot of confusion when listening to the Father’s Voice, so you really need to compare what you hear with what is in the Word of God. The Holy Spirit will NEVER NEVER NEVER tell you to do something that conflicts with what the Word says. Never be too prideful to admit that what you heard wasn’t from God … I’ve made this mistake a lot!!! I thought that I heard His voice and then acted before I compared it to His Word and ended up in a real mess!

Another gauge we can use to analyze if we’ve heard correctly is good bible-believing friends who have a proven track record with God. Not someone who sounds “spiritual” (there are plenty of those flakes), but someone who is solid, firm, grounded and steady in the Word … those are the ones you want to glean from.

Get Rid of the Fluff

The church has become entirely too dependent on books, worship CDs, teaching tapes and other “fluff”. Get rid of them …. especially if they are from the old way of life from which you are trying to escape – GET RID OF THEM! You don’t need worship CD’s to get into His Presence, you don’t need instruction from these books by people who think they’ve heard from God.

YOU NEED TO HEAR FROM GOD FOR YOURSELF!

When you get alone with God, quiet yourself and rely on Him alone for your spiritual experience … gradually, but faithfully, He will pour out on you such revelation that you will not have room to contain it! The Best Revelation comes directly from God, not from man.

Take the Time

Elijah ListHow long it takes for you to be back “on track” really depends on you. How long are you willing to spend with Him daily? Do you really want to be back “on track”?

I want to challenge you to tithe your time and dedicate 1/10 of your day (2-1/2 hours) to spend time with God (not as a religious duty – think of it as an investment) in prayer and in the Word. This is a great way to break through certain ways of thinking and to re-establish a damaged foundation. It worked for me!

Fear the Lord and Watch for His Coming,

Blessings and Peace,

    Hello,
I devoured your writings about the prophetic movement and all the error it entails. The Elijah list emails, i actually received years back but since I saw first hand the mean spirit, the respecter of persons and the lack of discernment, the itching ears prophetic, I’m OK your Great…messages and the nonsense on the level of the prophetic. They hold some back and promote others even if they are living sinful, unholy lives. The surprise I have from what you said is how you have found like minded friends to encourage, build up, edify and rebuke in your locale. I left church altogether almost 9 years ago. It is like the old adage, “you can’t see the forest for the trees”. They are under a spirit of error, deception and false anointing. These manifestation of the unholy spirit being actually imparted as a blessing is horrific. I was on the receiving end of that. Although you covered much, I didn’t see any writing on the need for deliverance mentioned. The false belief that Christians can’t have demons has opened the door to actually accepting, embracing, and imparting the demonic. God gave me a dream about all the garbage in churches behind the scenes with trash strewn about and in the dream they were playing games with the Holy Spirit and that God was going to lift His Grace and we would begin to see those in leadership positions taken out. Many were dying of cancer. The Lord told me God was going to lift His grace and shut down churches if they kept going down that dangerous path……and we are seeing that happen now. In essence the chapters you write on is the exposing of their secret, behind the scenes sin. There is no discernment involved and neither is the fear of the Lord preached so they is a total lack of wisdom. Thanks for being a light in the darkness!

Thank you for sharing your story. Unfortunately I’ve heard it far too many times. Since the ’60s I’ve gone through the “discipleship disaster” of the “Shepherding Movement” lead by the “New Wine” bunch (and their all too eager for power over and control of others “undershepherds”). I’ve seen the same evil spirit, whether it be of man or demonic you decide, in the Manifest Sons Of God, New Apostolic Revival, New Dominion, and other movements that have infested christianity since. They all claim to be “the new thing God is doing”, and demand that their followers ignore what He said in His Word about true Shepherds and how they treat their flocks [after all, the Bible is what God DID (past tense-to them, and it tends to get in their way when it's not used to their convenience)].

I’ve spent the greater part of over 40 years in my life, both as a formal ministry and not, healing the wounds these wolves in sheeps clothing have inflicted on Christians who didn’t sign up to be abused spiritually, but who deeply desired (like you) to know more of God and His wonders in their life (and ther is nothing wrong with that). Sadly, after abuse by these “nicolations” it is often hard to bring these same people back to trusting in the Father, taking much patience and more listening to the tragic stories of trust betrayed than most would imagine. Sadly, I still see this happening not just in individual churches but in entire churc h movements as they stop pursuing Jesus and run after a “word” from the prophet of the week.

I grieve for the church and those that are heading toward that brick wall of disillusionment. I’ve seen too many who have hit it already.

I will be sending your link to others that need to know they aren’t alone in their experience.

    God Bless You,
    Digrieze

Thank you for your testimony, it’s such an encouragement to those (myself included) who’ve come out of that mess.. Praise God, He is so faithful, when everything is confusing and falling to the ground, HIS Word stands strong! I appreciate the ‘rehab’ section – after 4 months out I’m still silencing the false-teaching voice that tries to stain certain scriptures – it gets better. God is good. His word really is all we need. Thank you! :)

    • Kevin Kleint says:

Thanks Joy! Dig down deep into that Word …. a solid foundation is priceless. In time, the foundation gets so strong, you can see deception coming a mile away! May God bless your knees to be strengthened with might to stand against the onslaught of the enemy!

  4. Bob Brunette says:

Kevin, I too was a victim to of both the Shepherding Movement and NAR/Kansas City Prophets/Apostles/IHOP for some 10 yrs. I can readily Identify with the greatest detail in which you express yourself. I too am presently taking major heat from a very large and influential segment of the Reading, PA Evangelical area, for merely exposing the truth of NAR, etc. False teaching. And I have to tell you I would rather stand in Truth of the Word of God than anywhere else… it’s only a question of time like it was with the Shepherding Movement the cutting edge Charismatic move of the day… growing with stellar liike popularity…. only to out of the clear blue come crashing down only then to become a byword… The Lord has already shown me that His patience has effectively been exhausted… and the whole NAR institution is already collapsing from implosions from within and explosions from without… unable to withstand His Righteous Judgments. I have an ongoing effort in place to expose NAR and their related ministries… God Bless you for this Expose, be encouraged the Lord is using it much greater ways than you can imagine their is genuine Christ Centered Testimony in these writings… which is and will only continue to assist those being set free… “Beloved Brethren, be thou steadfast, immovable always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord” ~ 1Cor.15.58 In His Mercy, Bob Brunette

    • Kevin Kleint says:

Hi Bob, thanks for the encouraging words! I edited your comments by taking out the FB invite, I didn’t know if you wanted to include that or not, but I will look you up.

Honestly, I looked into the NAR, and so far, I really haven’t found anything stable that I could really build upon to say “these guys want to take over America”, or whatever the accusation is. However, there ARE other things that I’ve read that has made me come to the realization that things are definitely fishy in the prophetic camp. Please understand that I am NOT devaluing (sp?) what you are saying, I’m just waiting for some solid foundational blocks to stand on before I jump on the bandwagon. I’m a simple guy … not that smart and easily distracted, hehe. If you could send me links to your info, that would be cool. I’d love to see what you have to say.

  5. Carmen says:

Just like you, I have been hooked up to counterfit christianity. I keep on asking God to show me His truth and not mans truth. What really has helped me a lot lately is listening to the teachings of Pastor Albert Murray from the Shepherd’s Chapel. He teaches verse by verse and line by line.

  6. Linda says:

Great post! Amazing how this is exactly where the Lord has had us these past few years. In his word and at his feet. Nothing fancy. Actually quite simple. Hmmmm…..what a novel idea!

    • Kevin Kleint says:

It is such a relief to find that, after all these years, the Life found in the Gospel is not complicated or hyper-spiritual. It’s simple, practical … and incredibly freeing! I’m FREE to follow His Law! Hallelujah!
