What Does Westboro Baptist Church and Ahmadinejad Have In Common?

When it comes to shaping public opinion, the American news media remains the single greatest force in the world (IMHO). The majority of these people have no interest in reporting the Truth about ANY situation; they are only interested in money and spreading their ideals.

Attacks from Without

ahmadinejadA couple days ago, I was reading in a major online publication how, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (President of the Islamic Republic of Iran), while addressing the United Nations, went on a tirade against the United States, causing many listeners to stage a massive walkout.

For the record: Ahmadinejad is a psychopath who deserves hell (we all do). He is not to be trusted and I just don’t like him. Nevertheless, something inside me (I believe it was the Holy Ghost) inspired me to dig further. When I actually read the unedited text of his address to the U.N., I found that much of what he said about “the West” and our values was actually true!

Now, don’t freak out on me here. There was a LOT of falsehood in the speech. Obviously, his eschatology and doctrine could use some work. But when he addressed Western values, where we “invest” our money and other bad habits that we esteem as “the American Way”, I can’t help but feel a serious rebuke. It is absolutely True that our values are not what we profess and that we engage in activity that is none of our business.

Let’s move on for a moment.

Strife from Within

westboroIf you haven’t seen the antics of the Westboro Baptist church on the television or the internet by now, you can check them out on YouTube. These lunatics exercise their 1st Amendment rights to spread (what they call) “the love of God” by picketing homosexual events, rock concerts and soldiers funerals. If you check out their videos, you’ll see them holding signs that say “God Hates Fags”, “Thank God for Dead Soldiers” and other ridiculous slogans.

What’s interesting about Westboro Baptist is they are coming onto the scene during a time when the American church desperately needs to return to the Word. This is a message they will readily preach (with their own twist, of course)!

Twisted Truth

Believe it or not, in the midst of all the hateful, terrible slogans, you will find a few sound, bible-based messages. “The Love of God = Rebuke” has some merit to it. Because He loves us, He will rebuke us so that we can see our sin for what it is! Also, “God Hates _____”, has some weight as well …. stop shaking your head, it really does!

Deuteronomy 16:22
You shall not set up a [sacred] pillar, which the LORD your God hates
Deuteronomy 12:31
You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way; for every abomination to the LORD which He hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.
Malachi 2:16
For the LORD God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one’s garment with violence,” Says the LORD of hosts. “Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously.

It says it right there. God hates false worship, idolatry and divorce! There is more (check out Proverbs 6), but for time sake, I will let you research it out.

Disturbing Revelation

Although the Lord has moved upon me in the past with a spirit of prophecy, I do not consider myself a prophet; however, there is a scenario unfolding, and where it COULD lead is disturbing my spirit.

The enemy is using arrogant fools like Ahmadinejad and the Westboro Baptist Klan to covertly introduce Godly concepts into the middle of their perverted message. Because “the rest” of their message is so utterly offensive and vile, the unaware and gullible masses (who believe everything they hear in the media) could automatically associate the Holy (Godly concepts) with the Profane (hatred).

If this happens, and the True Church rises up in Holiness and Purity, and starts to preach the Gospel in its fullness, topics such as God’s hatred for sin WILL surface as part of the Message. Unfortunately, the people will not see God’s loving rebuke, they will see Westboro Baptist. The masses will not hear God’s call to “Come out from among them”, but will hear Ahmadinejad preaching against our “way of life”. Additionally, any esteem or preference for a “Heavenly citizenship” will be seen as “unpatriotic”. The Message of the Gospel will become such an abomination to American society and the apostate church, that persecution like we have never experienced will occur.

Do you think this couldn’t happen in the “Land of the Free, Home of the Brave”? Open your eyes, it’s already happening!

The Time is Now

Never before has there been a time where True Believers need to align themselves with God’s Word and NOT give in to the Fear of Man. Very soon, we will all be forced to live this verse:

Revelation 12:11
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

This is where we overcome:

  • The Blood of the Lamb – Because, through His Blood, He has sanctified us, so that we are (and were always meant to be) set apart as His People (not Americans)
  • The Word of Our Testimony – Whether in public or in private, we have a story to tell of what He has done for us – SPEAK!
  • And They did not Love their Lives Unto Death – We have nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain. I mean, really, what has this world ever done for us?

True Church of Jesus Christ – may we all be found living in this kind of Victory!

Is it Spiritual Warfare or Disobedience?

Spiritual Warfare has been a HOT topic for over 10-15 years. We’ll pay hard earned money for books and teaching CD’s to teach us strategies on how to combat the “spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12).

But does it have to be that complicated? Are we focusing our efforts (and money) in the right direction?

The Spirit Realm is Real

Before I go further into this topic, let me state plainly that I believe in the supernatural. I believe that spiritual warfare DOES occur. I believe that angels and demons DO exist and interact in our lives on a regular basis.

However, I do NOT believe that spiritual warfare is to be blamed for all of our issues, bad attitudes, challenges and/or tragedies that have happened to us. Now, most of you would be quick to agree with that statement, but how many of us cling to the “spiritual warfare” excuse when something negative is happening? When the “rubber meets the road,” are you looking inward and analyzing your obedience level to God, or are we wondering what principality is afflicting us?

And the flesh cries “NOT ME!”

Although there are a few scriptures that exist on the topic of spiritual warfare, the Truth is the Bible doesn’t really talk much about it. Many people grab those few scriptures and either twist them and write a book about them (that’s another post for another time), or inflate them to overshadow other scriptures that could resolve our issues with more finality. It is easy to look externally for the answer to our present dilemma – it doesn’t take any personal initiative to do that; however, often the answer isn’t to be found in looking at the spirit realm, but in the mirror.

One all too often overlooked area causing struggles and conflict in our life is our own disobedience, and the Word has PLENTY of scriptures on the value of the Fear of the Lord and Obedience.

Proverbs 10:27
“The fear of the LORD prolongs days, But the years of the wicked will be shortened.”

Proverbs 14:26-27
“In the fear of the LORD [there is] strong confidence, And His children will have a place of refuge. The fear of the LORD [is] a fountain of life, To turn [one] away from the snares of death.”

Proverbs 19:23
“The fear of the LORD [leads] to life, And [he who has it] will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil.”

This is only a small sample of what you’ll find in the Bible on the Fear of the Lord and how it relates to our well-being. In fact, that was only a sample from Proverbs!

Chasing Shadows

If you look in the Word, you will find that scriptures on obedience and the Fear of the Lord FAR outweigh and outnumber the scriptures on spiritual warfare.

Could it be that we are paying far too much attention to an inferior enemy because we do not want to deal with our own disobedience? Could it be that the following verse is true about us?

Jeremiah 2:19
“Your own wickedness will correct you, And your backslidings will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that [it is] an evil and bitter [thing] That you have forsaken the LORD your God, And the fear of Me [is] not in you,” Says the Lord GOD of hosts.

Let it never be said that His Bride refused a chance to purify herself just as He is pure (1 John 3:2-3).
